- Per-bed PG rents reported for mid-2025 run roughly ₹8,000–15,000 in Koramangala, ₹7,000–13,000 in HSR, ₹5,000–10,000 in BTM and ₹5,000–9,000 in Electronic City.
- Only BTM Layout, Bommanahalli and Electronic City have Yellow Line stations inside them; HSR and Koramangala are an auto ride from the nearest stop.
- Yellow Line trains ran roughly every 7 minutes at peak by June 2026, which makes Hosur Road a real commuting base for Electronic City and Silk Board offices.
- Vaikuntum has a branch for each need: Bommanahalli for the metro corridor, Ejipura for EGL and Domlur, Koramangala 8th Block for the start-up belt.
The best PG in South Bangalore for an IT professional is the one that sits on your commute, not the one with the glossiest photos. South and south-east Bengaluru gives a working person five realistic choices — HSR Layout, Koramangala, BTM Layout, Bommanahalli on Hosur Road, and Electronic City — and they differ far more on rent, metro access and what happens after 8 pm than on the rooms themselves. Here is how they compare, and which Vaikuntum branch fits each one.
What a PG in South Bangalore typically costs
Per-bed PG rents reported for mid-2025 give a fair picture of the gap between areas: roughly ₹8,000–15,000 a month in Koramangala, ₹7,000–13,000 in HSR Layout, ₹5,000–10,000 in BTM Layout and ₹5,000–9,000 in Electronic City. Bommanahalli is rarely tracked on its own, but it sits between BTM and Electronic City on price and a clear step below HSR and Koramangala. Those figures are for ordinary sharing rooms. A single room, an attached bathroom, three meals and fast internet push a bed to the top of each range or past it, so compare what is included before you compare the rent.
The five areas side by side
| Area | Typical PG rent (per bed) | Metro | Offices it serves well | Evenings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HSR Layout | ₹7,000–13,000 | No station inside; Central Silk Board is the nearest Yellow Line stop | HSR sector offices, Sarjapur Road, Bellandur side of the ORR | Cafés, breweries, co-working on every main road |
| Koramangala | ₹8,000–15,000 | No station inside; auto to Silk Board or BTM Layout | Start-up offices across the 8 blocks, EGL and Domlur via Ejipura | The city’s densest food and nightlife |
| BTM Layout | ₹5,000–10,000 | BTM Layout station (Yellow Line) | BTM 1st and 2nd Stage, Bannerghatta Road, JP Nagar | Late-night food, quieter inner roads |
| Bommanahalli / Hosur Road | Between BTM and Electronic City | Bommanahalli and Hongasandra stations (Yellow Line) | Electronic City, Kudlu Gate, Hosur Road tech parks, Silk Board end of the ORR | Quiet; Koramangala is ~5 km away for weekends |
| Electronic City | ₹5,000–9,000 | Electronic City and Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara stations | Phase 1 and Phase 2 campuses | Quiet; the city is a metro ride away |
Commute: the metro changed the ranking
Until August 2025 the honest answer to “best area for PG in Bangalore” for an Electronic City employee was “as close to the campus as you can bear”, because the alternative was Silk Board twice a day. The Yellow Line, 19 km from RV Road to Bommasandra with 16 stations, rewrote that. By June 2026 trains were running roughly every 7 minutes at peak and 10 minutes off-peak, and the fifteenth and final trainset for the line arrived in July 2026. The stations that matter for this corridor, in order, are BTM Layout, Central Silk Board, Bommanahalli, Hongasandra, Kudlu Gate, then Electronic City five stops down from Hongasandra.
That has two consequences. First, a PG near IT parks in Bangalore no longer has to be inside the park: Hosur Road between Silk Board and Kudlu Gate is now 10–15 minutes from Electronic City Phase 1 by train. Second, HSR and Koramangala remain the most expensive areas and the only two without a station inside them, so you pay more rent and still take an auto to the metro. If your office is on the Yellow Line, a PG in Bommanahalli or BTM gives you the better commute at the lower rent. We covered the stop-by-stop times in our Yellow Line guide.
Food, nightlife and weekends
This is where Koramangala and HSR earn their rent. Koramangala has eight blocks across roughly 1,800 acres and is the city’s best-known district for restaurants, breweries and late-night delivery; HSR has seven sectors, a café on every main road and the highest number of co-working spaces in Bengaluru, which is why founders moved there as Koramangala got expensive. BTM is the practical middle: good food on the main roads, cheaper inner streets, and a station. Bommanahalli and Electronic City are quiet on weeknights, which some people count as a feature; both are a short ride from Koramangala when you want noise.
Which area for which office
- Electronic City, Kudlu Gate, Hosur Road parks: a PG in Bommanahalli near Hongasandra station. Metro both ways, no Silk Board.
- EGL, Domlur, Indiranagar, Koramangala 100 Ft Road offices: Ejipura or Koramangala 5th–8th Block. Walkable or a 5–10 minute ride.
- Koramangala start-ups, Bosch, Forum Mall side: a PG in Koramangala 8th Block, where the offices and the Regional Passport Office are a walk away.
- HSR sectors, Sarjapur Road, Bellandur: a PG in HSR Layout if the rent fits; otherwise Bommanahalli is about 3 km away by road.
- Bannerghatta Road, JP Nagar, Jayanagar: a PG in BTM Layout, with its own station.
