- “Unlimited” says nothing about speed: Zoom recommends about 3.8 Mbps up and 3 Mbps down per person for a 1080p group call, so ask for the line speed and run a speed test on the visit.
- BESCOM maintenance shutdowns in Bengaluru typically run six to seven hours in the daytime — your working hours — so “power backup” must keep Wi-Fi and lights on, not just a bulb.
- A real WFH PG gives you a desk or a dedicated working zone, quiet hours in writing, and a room type where you can take calls without three roommates in frame.
- Vaikuntum Elite Co-Living, Bommanahalli, runs 1 Gbps unlimited internet, a diesel generator that keeps lifts, lights and Wi-Fi on, a dedicated working zone and silence hours from 10:30 PM to 6 AM.
A PG for work from home in Bangalore has to pass three tests a normal PG never faces: the Wi-Fi must hold a video call at 11 AM when forty other people are on it, the power must stay on through a BESCOM maintenance shutdown, and there must be somewhere to sit that is not your bed. Most listings answer all three with the word “unlimited”. This guide shows what to ask instead, what to test on a visit, and which room type to pick if calls are your job.
PG with high speed wifi: bandwidth vs “unlimited”
“Unlimited Wi-Fi” describes the data cap, not the speed, and speed is what a call needs. Zoom’s own requirements are a useful yardstick: a 1:1 call at 720p wants about 1.2 Mbps in each direction; a group call at 1080p wants roughly 3.8 Mbps up and 3 Mbps down; screen sharing adds only a few hundred kbps. The catch is the word per person. A building on a single 100 Mbps line with 60 residents is fine at midnight and a lottery at 11 AM. So ask: what is the line speed into the building, how many residents share it, is there a second line for failover, and does every floor have its own access point or does the router sit at reception? A pg with high speed wifi answers in Mbps or Gbps, not adjectives.
Vaikuntum Elite Co-Living, Bommanahalli runs 1 Gbps unlimited internet, included in the rent. We still suggest a speed test from the room you would take, at the hour you would be working.
PG with power backup: what the generator actually covers
Bengaluru’s power problem for remote workers is not dramatic outages; it is scheduled maintenance. BESCOM shutdowns for feeder upgrades and transformer work are announced area by area and typically run six to seven hours starting in the morning — on 22 August 2026, for example, BTM Layout was listed from 10 AM to 5 PM. That is your entire working day. A pg with power backup needs to answer three questions: what powers the backup (an inverter lasts a few hours and runs lights and fans; a diesel generator runs the building), what stays on (lifts, lights, Wi-Fi, the router on every floor — or one tube light per room), and for how long. “Power backup available” without those answers usually means an inverter that dies at lunch.
Vaikuntum Bommanahalli has a diesel generator with 24-hour backup; lifts, lights and Wi-Fi stay on when the grid goes. If a PG claims the same, ask to see the generator and when it last ran.
Desks and work zones: somewhere that is not the bed
Eight hours on a mattress with a laptop is how people end up at the physiotherapist. Look for a desk and chair in the room, or a dedicated working zone with proper seating and power points, separate from the TV lounge. Count the sockets: one shared six-way board is not a workspace. Vaikuntum Bommanahalli has a dedicated working zone inside the building, and the rooftop café and dining lounge has granite tables and power points if you want daylight with the laptop. Our Ejipura gents’ branch, Vaikuntum Elite, has laptop tables in the rooms. One rule applies everywhere: high-power appliances are not allowed in rooms, so a laptop and monitor are fine but a room heater is not.
Noise, silence hours and where your room sits
Working from a PG is a daytime problem and a night-time problem. In the day, ask where the room is relative to the TV lounge, the dining hall and the lift lobby; a room at the end of the corridor is worth asking for. At night, you want silence hours in writing. Vaikuntum’s are 10:30 PM to 6 AM, with a ₹500 fine, which is what lets you take a US-hours call at 9 PM and then sleep. Common areas — the lounges, theatre, PS4 lounge and terrace — are where the noise is supposed to live, so the rooms stay quiet.
Call-friendly rooms: which sharing to pick
If you are on camera most of the day, the sharing type is the decision in any wfh pg. A private room with an attached bathroom means nobody walks through your frame; a two-share works if your roommate is at an office; beyond three-share is for people who go to an office and occasionally answer email from the room. At Vaikuntum Bommanahalli, singles, two-shares and three-shares have attached bathrooms.
| Room type (Bommanahalli) | Per person / month, all-inclusive | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Single XL (larger bed, TV, attached bath) | ₹27,000 | Full-time remote, on camera all day |
| Single (attached bath) | ₹25,000 | Full-time remote, calls most days |
| Two Share XL / couple room | ₹15,000 | A couple both working remotely from the same room |
| Two Share (attached bath) | ₹12,500 | Hybrid; roommate at an office on your heavy days |
| Three Share (attached bath) | ₹10,000 | Hybrid with a few calls a week; use the working zone for those |
What to test on a visit, in ten minutes
- Run a speed test on the PG Wi-Fi from the actual room, on your phone, at a working hour. Write down upload as well as download.
- Make a two-minute video call from the room with the door shut. Check whether the signal holds and whether you can hear the corridor.
- Ask what the backup is, what it covers and how long it runs; ask to see it.
- Count the power sockets near the bed and at the desk or work zone.
- Read the silence hours and the guest rules — a friend dropping in during your 4 PM stand-up is a guest.
- Ask how a Wi-Fi complaint is raised and how fast the last one was fixed.
A PG for work from home in Bangalore: where Vaikuntum fits
Everything a pg for remote workers needs is inside the rent at Bommanahalli: 1 Gbps unlimited internet, generator backup that keeps the Wi-Fi up, a dedicated working zone, silence hours, daily housekeeping, three meals so you do not break for cooking, and private rooms with attached baths for people on camera. The building is a 3-minute walk from Hongasandra Metro for hybrid days — five stops to Electronic City, two to Silk Board — and there is no lock-in, so a change in your company’s remote policy is a 30-day notice, not a problem. The moving-in checklist covers what to bring; add a monitor and a good chair cushion if you will work from the room.
