PG near Electronic City: live inside Electronic City or commute by metro?

A PG inside Electronic City Phase 1 vs a room on the Yellow Line at Hongasandra: commute times, weekend life, rent and who should pick which.

Key takeaways
  • Electronic City station is five Yellow Line stops from Hongasandra, roughly 10–15 minutes; Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara, the stop that serves the Infosys and Wipro campuses, is the sixth.
  • Living inside Electronic City wins on a walkable commute and odd shifts; living on the metro line wins on weekends, friends in HSR and Koramangala, and the day your project moves.
  • Compare total monthly cost, not the headline rent — a room inside Electronic City that excludes food and electricity can cost more than an all-inclusive room up the line.
  • Vaikuntum Elite Co-Living, Bommanahalli, is a 3-minute walk from Hongasandra station with rooms from ₹6,500 to ₹27,000 a month, everything included.

If you have just been posted to Electronic City, the first decision is not which PG near Electronic City to pick — it is whether to live inside Electronic City at all. The short answer: live inside if your commute must be a walk or you work night shifts; live on the Yellow Line, around Bommanahalli and Hongasandra, if you want a 15-minute metro ride to work and a life outside the campus walls on weekends. Here is the trade-off in detail, with the commute, the weekends, the rent and who should pick which.

What Electronic City actually is

Electronic City is a planned IT and industrial estate of about 3.2 square kilometres on Hosur Road, divided into phases, with roughly 200 IT and ITES campuses. The big names have their main Bengaluru campuses there — Infosys, Wipro, TCS, HCL, Tech Mahindra and Biocon — which is what people mean when they search for a pg near infosys electronic city or a pg near wipro gate. It is connected to Silk Board by a four-lane elevated expressway of just under 10 kilometres that opened in 2010 and takes around 30 minutes in normal traffic. It is excellent at being a place to work. It was not designed as a place to spend a Saturday.

The metro changed the question

Until August 2025 the choice was between living inside Electronic City and sitting in Hosur Road traffic. The Yellow Line — 19.15 km, 16 elevated stations from RV Road to Bommasandra, open to the public since 11 August 2025 — removed the traffic from the equation. From Hongasandra, the stops run Kudlu Gate, Singasandra, Hosa Road, Beratena Agrahara and then Electronic City: five stops, roughly 10–15 minutes. The next stop, Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara, is the one listed as serving the Infosys and Wipro campuses, and was built with a ₹100 crore contribution from the Infosys Foundation; Biocon Hebbagodi, two stops further, was funded the same way by Biocon. Trains run from 5 AM to 11 PM. At launch the headway was a thin 20–25 minutes, with BMRCL targeting 6–10 minutes at peak as more trains arrive, so check the current frequency before you decide. Our Yellow Line guide covers the whole corridor; this post is only about the Electronic City decision.

Option A: a PG in Electronic City Phase 1

What you gain. A commute measured in minutes on foot or a short auto to the gate. No dependence on metro hours, which matters for night shifts and support roles. Campus gyms, food courts and the office shuttle all within reach. For a pg in electronic city phase 1 the whole point is that work is next door.

What you give up. Electronic City goes quiet on weekends because it is an industrial estate, not a neighbourhood; the cafés, pubs and friends’ flats of Koramangala and HSR Layout are a 30-minute drive up the expressway or a metro ride away. Many rooms inside the estate are quoted without food, electricity or Wi-Fi, so the headline rent can be misleading. And projects move: a transfer to a Koramangala or Bellandur office turns the walkable commute into the worst one in the city.

Option B: a PG near Electronic City on the Yellow Line (Bommanahalli / Hongasandra)

What you gain. A metro commute in both directions — five stops to Electronic City, two stops to Silk Board, one to Kudlu Gate — and a base from which HSR Layout is about 3 km, BTM Layout about 3.5 km, Madiwala about 3 km and Koramangala about 5 km. Your weekend is in the city; your weekday is 15 minutes on a train. If your project moves to HSR, BTM or Koramangala, you do not move house. A pg on yellow line also works for a couple or a pair of friends working at different ends of the corridor.

What you give up. Door-to-door is realistically 20–30 minutes once you add the walk to the station and the last stretch from the station to your gate, and the metro stops at 11 PM. Night-shift workers will need a bike, a cab or the office cab for the late leg.

Commute and rent, side by side

Hongasandra (Vaikuntum, 3-minute walk to the station)5 stops, roughly 10–15 min on the trainPlus the last stretch from the station to your gate; trains 5 AM–11 PM

On rent, the variable is not the pin code but what is inside the number. We have not seen a reliable, current survey of PG rents inside the estate, so we will not quote one. The way to compare: take the headline rent, add electricity, Wi-Fi, laundry and the meals that are not included, then put that total next to an all-inclusive room up the line. The PG hidden charges guide has the worked example.

Who should pick which

  • Night or rotating shifts, no bike: inside Electronic City.
  • Standard day shift, friends or a partner elsewhere in the city: the Yellow Line.
  • First Bengaluru job, likely to change project in a year: the Yellow Line — Bommanahalli stays central to the whole corridor.
  • Couple with one partner in Electronic City and one in HSR or Koramangala: the Yellow Line, in a couple room.
  • You plan to buy a bike in a month: either; the expressway makes the drive predictable outside peak hours.
