- Bengaluru recorded 6,165 motor vehicle thefts in 2023 and 5,575 in 2024, and police say 14–16 two-wheelers are reported stolen every day, mostly from poorly lit spots.
- Open, covered, closed and basement parking are four different things; only closed or basement parking puts your bike behind a door at night.
- Ask six questions before booking: where, how many bikes, who has the key, CCTV, rain cover, and whether a car can be parked at all.
- Vaikuntum offers closed basement parking at Bommanahalli, closed ground-floor parking at Ejipura and open on-premises parking at Sai Ram.
A PG with bike parking in Bangalore is worth paying attention to for three plain reasons: your bike can be stolen, it can be rained on for months every year, and in Koramangala or Bommanahalli there is often nowhere else to put it. Most listings say “parking available” and stop there. This post explains what the words actually mean, what to ask, when a bike beats the metro, and exactly what each Vaikuntum branch offers.
Why parking is the amenity nobody asks about
Theft. Bengaluru recorded 6,165 motor vehicle thefts in 2023 and 5,575 in 2024, and a February 2026 report quoted police saying 14 to 16 two-wheelers are reported stolen across the city every day, with vehicle theft pushing up the city’s property-crime numbers. A senior officer put the cause simply: many owners park in poorly lit areas to save money, and those become easy pickings. A bike on the street outside a PG at 2 am is exactly that.
Rain. Bengaluru’s pre-monsoon and monsoon evenings bring the kind of downpours that leave motorists stranded in knee-deep water, as happened across several areas on a single evening in May 2026. A bike that spends every night in the open gets a rusted chain, a damp seat and an electrical fault within a season; a scooter under a shed fares little better when the rain comes sideways.
Space. Older PGs were houses with a gate and a strip of driveway. Six residents with bikes means two on the pavement, and the pavement belongs to whoever gets home first. In dense areas that strip is also where autos stop and the garbage truck reverses.
Open, covered, closed, basement: what the words mean
- Open parking is a yard or a strip inside the compound wall. It keeps the bike off the public road and usually under CCTV, but not out of the rain and not behind a door. Fine for a commuter scooter, less fine for a bike you saved for.
- Covered parking adds a roof: a shed, a portico, the stilt floor of a building. The rain problem is mostly solved; the access problem is not, because a stilt floor often opens straight onto the street.
- Closed parking means a gate or shutter that is locked at night and opened by the guard or a key. The bike is out of sight and out of reach. This is the one to ask for if the bike matters.
- Basement parking is closed parking under the building, with a ramp and usually a shutter or barrier. Dry, dark, lockable, and the hardest for an outsider to reach, which is why it is standard in newer buildings and rare in converted houses.
A covered parking PG and a closed parking PG are not the same thing, and a listing that says “parking” will mean the first unless you ask.
Six questions to ask before you book
- Where exactly? Walk to the spot during the visit. If the answer is “outside”, that is the street.
- How many bikes fit, and how many residents have one? A PG with two-wheeler parking for ten bikes and forty residents is a street-parking PG for thirty people.
- Who opens the gate after 11 pm? A guard on duty, a key you hold, or a locked shutter and a phone call.
- Is the parking on CCTV? Ask to see the camera, not the sticker.
- Is it dry in a downpour? Look for water marks on the floor and whether the ramp drains or pools.
- Can a car be parked? Few places advertise themselves as a PG with car parking in Bangalore, and where one does it usually means a slot or two on a first-come basis. If you drive, ask on the phone, not on move-in day.
Bike or metro? Commutes from Bommanahalli, Ejipura and Koramangala
From Bommanahalli, the metro now wins most arguments. Hongasandra station on the Yellow Line is a 3-minute walk from our building; Electronic City Phase 1 is five stops and about 10–15 minutes, Kudlu Gate one stop, Silk Board two, and by June 2026 trains were running roughly every 7 minutes at peak. A bike is still the better tool for HSR Layout (~3 km) and BTM (~3.5 km), where no train goes door to door, and for the 10 pm supermarket run. Keep the bike, use the train on weekdays.
From Ejipura and Koramangala 8th Block, there is no metro station inside the area, so the question is bike versus walking versus auto. EGL is 5 minutes from the Ejipura branch and Sony World Signal a 9-minute walk; Sai Ram is a 2-minute walk from the Regional Passport Office and near the Forum Mall offices. For those destinations you do not need the bike. For Indiranagar, Domlur, Whitefield or HSR you do, and that is when closed parking at night starts to matter, because the bike is going to live at the PG for years.
A PG with bike parking in Bangalore: the three Vaikuntum branches
| Branch | Parking | Security around it | Nearest metro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vaikuntum Elite Co-Living, Bommanahalli (men, women, couples) | Closed bike parking in the basement | Face-recognition / card entry, CCTV across the building, 24/7 security | Hongasandra, 3-minute walk |
| Vaikuntum Elite Gents Stay, Ejipura | Closed ground-floor bike parking | CCTV | None inside the area; EGL 5 minutes, Sony World Signal 9-minute walk |
| Sai Ram PG for Gents, Koramangala 8th Block | Open bike parking on the premises | CCTV, biometric door locks | None inside the area; near Forum Mall and the Passport Office |
The honest summary: if the bike is the expensive part of your life, Bommanahalli or Ejipura put it behind a closed door; Sai Ram keeps it inside the compound and on camera, which is already better than the street. The parking at all three branches is for two-wheelers; if you drive a car, ask on WhatsApp before the visit so you are not guessing. Parking is included in the all-inclusive rent, and all three are monthly stays with no brokerage.
A PG with parking near Silk Board
If your office is on the Silk Board end of the Outer Ring Road, Bommanahalli is two Yellow Line stops away and the basement means the bike is dry and locked on the days you take the train. Our Silk Board page has the distances. Bring the bike on the visit; the ramp and the shutter are the first thing we will show you.
